Where do building materials come from?
When a new building is constructed without attention to the environment, resources are mined, waste is generated, forests are chopped down and toxic chemicals off-gas from materials. “Green” building addresses each of these areas and results in a building that has taken less from the earth and contributed less in the way of pollution and waste.
Reuse of Building
Every bit of recycling helps. In our case, we recycled an entire building!
Each brick in this solidly constructed structure represents a savings in
energy and resources. What’s more, if we had torn down the old building,
millions of pounds of waste would have been thrown into our already bulging
landfills.
Recycled Materials — More Information
While tenants can fit out their spaces however they like, public spaces have been finished with elegant, flexible, ergonomic furniture from Herman Miller, that has been produced in an environmentally sensitive way.
Tenant Recycling Program
At Gordon Avenue, we don’t want environmental and social responsibility to end when we open our doors. Our tenant recycling program will be managed by Cleanscape, an innovative local recycling company. Cleanscape employs residents of the Providence Enterprise Community, providing economically disadvantaged people a living wage, training opportunities, and profit-sharing.
